Top 10 Games Coming Out in 2022

Written by Stakester

We’re already getting hyped for the best new games of 2022. From shooters, to RPGs to big screen adaptations — we’re in for a good year!

The new year is upon us, and we have a lot of great new games to look forward to in 2022. Whether you enjoy exploring a magical world, taking the role of a superhero, or just blowing stuff up – there is plenty for you to enjoy. We are so hyped for these games that we had to make a list of them, so you can sit back and enjoy!

Elden Ring

This beautiful roleplaying game stunned us from the moment it was first announced. It’s a collaboration of George R.R Martin’s fantasy narrative, and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Dark Souls gameplay — a collaboration worth waiting for! The gameplay preview back in November absolutely floored us, with a gorgeous and dark world just waiting to be explored.

Elden Ring has a variety of classes and gameplay for the player to choose from: warriors, mages and holy classes. It will be your job to restore the Elden Ring and become a powerful lord by exploring the land and finding the Great Runes. If you choose this adventure, it will begin on February 25th.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

From the wacky world of Borderlands comes a spin-off we weren’t expecting. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a successor to the Borderlands 2 DLC — Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep — and we’re definitely ready to roll for initiative. The combined elements of an RPG and a first-person-shooter have us excited: and we already know that Tiny Tina won’t make it an easy adventure.

Much like the other Borderland games, you’ll have six classes to choose from. The best part is you’ll be able to mix and match the skill sets available to you! Prepare yourself for an epic adventure into this fantasy world, equipped with your skills, wit and many many guns. Look out for this release coming on the 25th of March.

Forspoken

Last year’s preview of Forspoken was just the beginning of what looked to be a very fluid and fun game, featuring a young woman travelling the land at high speed and flying. Forspoken sees normal New Yorker Frey taken from her home and transported to the magical world of Athia. It’s  a narrative-driven adventure in an open-world setting, where players are free to explore the environment at their own pace.

Despite this being as much  as we currently know about Forspoken, the trailer featured at The Game Awards certainly got us excited for some great characters – not to mention a fantastical world that we will be free to explore. We will get to experience Frey’s magical arsenal and fluid gameplay from May 24th!

Starfield

Bethesda is taking a step away from Elder Scrolls and Fallout to bring us this new role playing space adventure. From what we know so far, this game takes place in a galaxy far away  called The Settled Systems. It will take place twenty years after a colony war, where we take control of our customisable player.

Even though the trailer only showed so much and story details are foggy, we’re already in love with the idea of a blockbuster roleplaying game set in space. Unfortunately for Playstation owners, this is an Xbox and PC exclusive, and we can expect it on November 11th.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

As fun as it is to play heroes like Captain America or Thor, we all wish that we could have our very own customisable hero with hand-picked superpowers. Luckily for us, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is going to deliver on that dream this year! You will take the role of ‘The Hunter’ where you can customise a male or female character, and choose their superpowers out of 40 potential abilities.

The game is based off of a comic series under a similar name ‘Rise of the Midnight Sons’ where a hero teams up with the Avengers to stop Lilith (Mother of All Demons). We have seen from the trailer that gameplay is in the form of a tactical RPG — and features other heroes like Wolverine and Ghost Rider. A release date is still unconfirmed as of now, but it is currently scheduled for late 2022.

God of War: Ragnarok

Ragnarok is almost upon us, and this anticipated sequel has kept God of War fans waiting a long time. Soon, we’ll be back with Kratos and Atreus to discover more about Atreus’ identity as Loki, and find a way to prevent the end of days. In this heavy-handed adventure, you’ll be up against the Norse gods as they try to avenge the loved ones they lost to Kratos.

Despite suffering some setbacks in production due to the pandemic, we were treated to a full-length player showcase just last year to let us know it was still alive. As usual, this will be a Playstation exclusive, so Xbox players will have to sit this one out! Even though there is no solid release date, a leak has suggested that September 30th might just be the dawn of Ragnarok.

Gotham Knights

Nothing beats taking to the Gotham skyline as Batman, but his slick sidekicks deserve a little attention too! Gotham Knights features four of the Batman Family: Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and Red Hood. Each of these characters have a unique skill set, and you’ll need to utilise them well to continue Batman’s legacy and protect Gotham City. You’ll be up against villains like the Penguin, and even the Court of Owls — keep your Batarangs close!

Despite the studio’s previous work on the incredible Batman: Arkham Origins, this game is an entirely new story! This gorgeous trailer for the world premiere of this game had us hooked from the first few seconds. The release date is still up in the air due to a delay, but we’ll be ready when it comes.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Rocksteady are coming at us with yet another incredible Batman title: except it won’t feature our favourite masked vigilante, but the misfits of Arkham Asylum. The task force known as Suicide Squad consists of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark and Captain Boomerang: and they’re about to save the world. Their mission is to enter Metropolis, save the world and the Justice League.

The official gameplay trailer shows us that Rocksteady still have their spark, displaying the bright city of Metropolis and the fluid gameplay. We’re ready to take control of our favourite villains as they become the unlikely heroes of the world — coming sometime this year!

Hogwarts Legacy

This well-anticipated Harry Potter game has caught the attention of many, especially since it’s initial leak on Reddit back in 2018 inspired wild speculation from fans. It’s been the dream of almost every fan to enter the wizarding world, create your character and become the best spellcaster in an RPG.

The trailer has shown off the potential for gameplay as well as a world outside of Hogwarts waiting to be explored. Fans are also very excited about the character customisation which is inclusive to those who identify as transgender. Despite experiencing a delay, the game does have a current 2022 release: have your wands at the ready!

Vampire The Masquerade: Swansong

Credit: Big Bad Wolf

From a tabletop roleplaying game into the gaming world, Vampire the Masquerade has gathered a bit of a cult following from their most popular title: Bloodlines. There aren’t many vampire RPGs out there, and this series is really one of a kind. It takes place in the modern day, where vampire kind keep their society secret from the human world. It’s definitely not easy being a vampire, and Swansong will show the underbelly of this world.

Swansong has had a very quiet development, overshadowed by Bloodlines 2 on the unknown horizon, but fans are thirsty for a drop of this series. This story will take place in Boston where the player will take control of three vampires, and investigate a conspiracy unravelling in this vampiric world. The trailer got our hearts pumping, and we’re just dying (get it?) for the release on May 19th.
