A brand new promo to mark the end of an era for some great players!

The painful reality of football is that the greats come and go – Maradona, Pele, Cruyff; they all graced the pitch and inspired millions of fans, but age catches up with even the legends of the game. In days gone by, players coming to the end of their career or switching clubs could only live on in the memory of fans. But, luckily for us, EA Sports have created a brand new FIFA Ultimate Team promo: End of an Era cards mean we can continue to enjoy the greatness of the memorable players who are entering the twilight of their career or time with their club!

The promo

Now that the season has come to an end, players’ contracts are expiring, some are choosing to head for pastures new, and others are hanging up their boots. EA is deciding to commemorate these players with the End of an Era promo – so if any of your favourite players are set for a big change in the coming weeks, they might just snag a new special card before they wave goodbye.

Unlike most promotions, such as TOTS, this promo will not include pack releases of players. Instead, End of an Era cards will only be available as SBCs and in objectives!

The players

Mata

Juan Mata has played 285 games for Manchester United, but has decided that after 8 years with the club, it’s time to move on. In those 285 appearances, the former Spanish international player scored 51 times and assisted another 47! He fell out of favour in his final season with the Red Devils, spending most of his time out of the squad or on the bench – but the Manchester United faithful will still look back on his time fondly.

Mata’s peak on FIFA with Man U came back in 2019, when this UEL SBC launched. It was only an 89 rated card, but it still packed a punch going forward, with passing and dribbling stats which really made him a handful in the midfield. His predicted EOAE card is easily going to surpass this mark though, and should provide most teams with the attacking support they need until end-game.

Di Maria

The Argentinian winger has been in the French capital since 2015, and has made a huge 295 appearances. All good things must come to an end though, and he looks set to leave on a free transfer, with whispers of a move to Barcelona gaining momentum. In his almost 300 appearances, Di Maria has scored 93 goals and assisted 119 – leading the PSG president to say that he has left a permanent mark on the history of the club!

Di Maria reached his FIFA peak with PSG in last year’s FIFA 21, with his 97 overall Summer Stars card. His EOAE card doesn’t really look as if it will live up to that unreal card though, with only passing and dribbling being close – but, this is still a card that will be incredibly fun to use and has the ability to tear up defences!

Fabregas

Fabregas has only been at Monaco since 2019 and although he has captained the club, he hasn’t had much impact if you look at his stats. In 68 appearances, he scored 4 and assisted 9 – so he doesn’t look like the ideal player to receive an EOAE card, but we’re betting he’s glad this era is ending! He’s said he can’t retire this way, after having a solid career before this season, so we can expect him to try his luck elsewhere next season.

Fabregas’ FIFA 21 Futties card was an incredibly well-rounded beast. At 93 overall, with 4* 4* and stats that could see him play anywhere on the pitch. His EOAE card looks on the surface like it will one up last year’s card being 94 overall – but if FUT Sheriff’s predicted stats are accurate, he will take a hit in most stats. Still, a 94 Fabregas will be like a throwback to his glory days in London!

Insigne

Insigne is a club legend in Napoli, having scored 121 times and set up his teammates 95 times in a massive 433 games. The truth is that at just 31, he could have carried on in Serie A and still been a baller – but, Insigne has decided to head over to the MLS to join Toronto FC.

The Italian attacker peaked in FIFA 18 with his 95 overall LW card, but FUT Sheriff’s prediction has him taking a hit from his all time high, back to a 94 overall. The pace and the dribbling are the stats which really stand out on this card, with 97 in both areas, you’ll be gliding down the wing with ease and pocketing opposition fullbacks!!
