FIFA 22 Premier League Team of the Season prediction
Thanks to our followers, we have the data to back up our Premier League Team of the Season prediction!
It’s nearing that exciting time when the first proper (sorry, Community TOTS) Team of the Season is released. The Premier League will be the first of the top 5 leagues to receive a TOTS squad – and for the first time, it’s going to be the Ultimate Team community who decide on the lineup! We’ve put the question to our Twitter followers, and you’ve given us a pretty clear Premier League Team of the Season prediction!
You can think of this as a FIFA ‘exit poll’ – with over 11,000 votes so far, this should give you a pretty good indication of who the community wants to see lining up in the Premier League TOTS.
Goalkeeper – Alisson
There’s not much to split these two IRL or on FIFA. Alisson currently has the most clean sheets in the league, with 19 kept over 2,790 minutes played. His fellow Brazilian and title rival, Ederson, has 18 clean sheets and one fewer goal conceded.
Allison does look the favourite and we do think he shades it IRL and in-game. He makes a lot of outrageous saves and sweeps up well behind the back four. So whoever wins the title the goalscoring, assist-making keeper is the first name on our Prem TOTS team sheet!
Right-back – Trent Alexander-Arnold
There was probably never any doubt that Trent would be making this squad; he looks set to match, or even beat, his 2019/20 assist record of 13, as he currently sits on 12 with five games left to play. He’s also bagged two goals of his own and helped his team keep 19 clean sheets!
On FIFA he’s a seriously good CM with high passing stats – plus his TOTS item will have a pace boost that makes him very usable at RB. If you want to play a really attacking style through the middle he can probably fill in at CB too. Fully deserved.
Centre-back 1 – Virgil Van Dijk
The overwhelming majority voted for VVD, and with good reason; the Dutchman has scored three and assisted one, but his most impressive stats are defensive – he has made 191 recoveries, won 137 duels and 111 aerial battles.
On FIFA he has those telescopic legs that cut out passes, block shots and intercept the ball when it is seemingly impossible. He’s a rock at the back, and his TOTS item will be seriously hot property. Dias TOTY has competition.
Centre-back 2 – Rúben Dias
Or does he? In a sensational move, the community has voted for Ruben Dias despite the man missing half of the season. He improves on VVD’s attacking stats, scoring 3 goals and making 3 assists, but he’s also been solid at the back too. He’s made 101 recoveries, won 81 duels and 33 aerial battles – this doesn’t sound like a lot, but Man City are solid this year. Across the whole season, he’s only conceded 18 goals!
On FIFA, there are literally no holes in his game: pace, power, physicals, Portuguese/Premiership links. Packing this guy would be serious cause for celebration.
Left-back – João Cancelo
There’s no doubt that Cancelo is the full package, and that’s why so many of you had him in your Premier League Team of the Season prediction. In 31 appearances, he’s managed 6 assists and 1 goal. But unlike a lot of fullbacks who are great going forward, he’s ridiculously OP at the back; he’s made a massive 76 tackles, 54 interceptions, won 191 duels and has even been dominant in the air with 46 aerial battles won.
His TOTY item could play literally anywhere: we even had loads of fun using him up front! His dribbling and body type makes him a dangerous runner, and the recovery pace and defensive stats mean that you don’t have to get too worried about being caught upfield. Certified baller.
Centre-mid 1 – Declan Rice
In defensive midfield is Declan Rice. The England midfielder has been a rock in the middle of the park for West Ham, and he’s got the stats to show for it – he’s recovered the ball 267 times, won 157 duels and made 68 tackles. He’s also pitched in on the attack too, scoring once and assisting four times.
Don’t you just love it when clunky cards make the TOTS? A Rice item that reflects his real-life abilities is likely to be on the cheaper end of the TOTS scale, but he’ll be loads of fun! West Ham fans, enjoy his item while you can – he’ll be somewhere else next season!
Centre-mid 2 – Kevin De Bruyne
There’s only one name that deserves to grace this position, and it is KDB. He’s fast becoming a Premier League hall of famer, and this season is definitely upping his chances of becoming one of the league’s greats. In 26 appearances for Manchester City, the Belgian has scored 11 goals and made 6 assists.
His FIFA item was better than ever before this season, having already made a great appearance in the Signature Signings Promo. His TOTS will be insanely good, with amazing dribbling, shooting and passing. The boy can do it all.
Centre-mid 3 – Phil Foden (TBC)
The jury is still out on this one, but so far, it looks like Foden will clinch this spot with 31.5% of the vote. 2021’s Young Player of the Season is continuing his climb to the top, and has so far scored 8 goals and made 11 assists, he’s also won a massive 263 duels!
Foden has enjoyed a few tasty upgraded items this season, but this will top them all. Great dribbling, pace and passing – plus that left foot – make him a great option to play CAM or anywhere across the front 3.
Right-wing – Mohammad Salah
The league’s current top scorer was always going to get this place, and he claimed a massive 78% of the vote. The Egyptian King has scored 22 times so far this campaign, and has also set up 13 goals for his teammates – which means he leads both goals scored and goals created. Mo Salah is definitely worthy of the RW TOTS spot.
His TOTY item was so good, it’s hard to believe there’s a better one coming. The Egyptian king is lethal up front, with that dribbling and unerring finishing. He’ll be quick enough to take on even the paciest fullbacks out wide too.
Left-wing – Son Heung-Min
It seems like Son never gets the spotlight he deserves, and this season is no different. Whilst the likes of Ronaldo and Mo Salah have been hitting the headlines, Son has been grinding away in the background and has racked up 17 goals and 6 assists from out wide.
On FIFA, he’s multifaceted, versatile and absolutely deadly in front of goal. 5 star weak foot and good close control means that once he gets turned in the box, it’s probably going in. We’re glad to see that the community knows how much he has to offer!
Striker – Cristiano Ronaldo
There was another landslide victory in the striker vote, and CR7 came out on top. It’s safe to say that Ronaldo has been the beacon of hope in a struggling United side this season, still managing to score 16 goals and assist 3 in his 27 appearances. We can’t imagine the damage he’d do if his United team mates were also up to scratch!
On FIFA he’s on his own level. He can dribble, and when you get it wrong he always seems to power through tackles as though the defenders aren’t there. His shooting is outrageous, and he can score headers for fun. If one TOTS player is going to break the 10m coin mark, it’ll be him.
Before we dig into this section, it’s worth noting that we only pick the starting XI with our votes, EA will have the pleasure of deciding the bench. So, we might see some players from smaller clubs.
Goalkeeper – Ederson
There’s not much separating Ederson and his Liverpool counterpart, he’s the only choice for second place.
Centre-back – Romero
Despite only 5 clean sheets for Spurs, Romero has grown into his role this season. He’s made for FIFA too, he’s strong, quick and good on the ball.
Left-back – Kieran Tierney
With 9 clean sheets, 3 assists and a goal, he’s definitely following in the footsteps of his countryman Robertson. His Winter Wildcards item was awesome in-game, so we’re looking forward to this one.
Centre-mid – Conor Gallagher
With 8 goals and 3 assists, Gallagher has been a huge player for Crystal Palace this season. Despite technically being a Chelsea player, we think he’ll make the team.
Right-mid – Bukayo Saka
Saka is another England starlet who has a promising future, with 11 goals and 5 assists this season. He’ll be on the low end of the TOTS scale, but that means a cheap, fun item to try out.
Striker – Ivan Toney
Toney has earned a spot on the TOTS list with 12 goals and 4 assists. He had an IF in the early game that was super fun to use – so we’re looking forward to a fun and destructive item.
And that sums up our prediction for the best of English Football’s Team of the Season.
