FIFA 23 starter squad: dominate your first Weekend League
It’s time to start thinking about your FIFA 23 starter squad, here’s some inspiration!
For the last 12 months, you’ve spent countless hours (and maybe countless FIFA Points) building a FIFA 22 team that is the stuff of legend. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and the imminent FIFA 23 release date means you’ll soon be building a team from scratch again. As always, this is a bittersweet moment in any FIFA player’s year, but the upside is you can start to get excited about that first FIFA 23 Ultimate Team Weekend League! Here’s a FIFA 23 starter squad that can see you dominate your first taste of FUT 23 Champs.
GK – Schmeichel
The Danish keeper may be past his prime years, but that doesn’t mean he can’t do a job for your Ultimate Team. With his recent move to Ligue 1’s Nice, he’s going to open up a whole host of new chemistry options, and he still has that baseline quality to be a solid shot stopper at the back.
LB – Mendes
Following on from his TOTS card in FIFA 22, this man will be getting a solid base card boost. His pace is what makes this card most attractive, meaning he’ll be able to bomb forward and support the midfield 3 when required.
CB – Todibo
Another man in the back line who’s due a big improvement from last year’s 76 base card. Todibo is going to bring a fair amount of pace to that centre half position, and he’s also got some very well-rounded stats in the defensive and physical areas. Definitely a card which can carry you through
CB – Klostermann
Thanks to his great pace, Klostermann was a fairly popular player in FIFA 22. You can expect that trend to continue at the start of FUT 23, and his respectable defending and physical stats will also go a long way to getting your brand new squad up and running.
RB – Clauss
Clauss was in hot demand through the transfer window, with massive names like Man United and Chelsea in the running for his signature. The scramble to get Clauss into your team will continue once FIFA 23 is released, as he looks like an awesome player for the opening weeks of Ultimate Team.
CM – Caqueret
Caqueret’s Ligue 1 TOTS card racked up well over 5 million games played, and that shows that the FUT community know just how well this man can work in a team. Granted, this is a base card we’re talking about, but he has all of the necessary attributes to make an impact in any early-game team.
CM – Sanches
Here’s one of the names that can really show their quality in the first Weekend League of FIFA 23. Solid pace, dribbling and physicality really makes Sanches and explosive presence in any midfield!
CAM – Wirtz
Is this team just made of FIFA 22 TOTS players? Wirtz’s boosted base card in FIFA 23 will provide the attacking flair that you need in the attacking third of the pitch, and will do a great job of supporting your front 3.
LW – Diaby
Pace and dribbling are this man’s strongpoints; he can act as your outball if you’re under the cosh, and has all it takes to go it alone if necessary – although you’ll need to be close to goal to have any chance of finishing with him. Of course, he’s also going to find it easy to beat his man and get a ball into the attackers waiting in the box.
RW – Gelson Martins
Out on the right wing is another man with quality pace and dribbling. He can act in much the same way as Diaby, providing those piercing runs into the opposition third. His finishing is slightly better than Diaby, which means he could have a slight edge in offensive output.
ST – Werner
Werner is one of the biggest names on this starter squad list, and probably one of the most expensive in the early days! However, he’ll be worth every penny, and he’ll provide that quick turn of pace and finishing ability that every FIFA player needs on their journey to the top of the Ultimate Team ladder.
