The best Ultimate Team beginner guide for new FIFA players!

If you’ve been lucky enough to pick up EA Sports’ FIFA 22 over the Christmas season, then you might find yourself asking where to start with FIFA’s Ultimate team mode. It’s the most popular game mode in the FIFA franchise and because of that, it’s the mode with the most to do! Everyone else has been playing for months already, so how do you catch up? Luckily for you, we’ve got the best Ultimate Team beginner guide to starting your journey to the top this Christmas:

Complete SBCs

It’s crucial that you get moving on the Squad Building Challenges as soon as possible – start with the beginner challenges so that you get a feel for how to complete them. These will also help to pad out your club with players.

Once you have completed the easier SBCs, it’s time to set your sights on the more advanced challenges such as Hybrid Leagues and Hybrid Nations. This is where you will start packing players that are either good enough to go straight into your team, or valuable enough to earn you decent coins on the transfer market.

Buy cheap beasts

Ultimate Team is a process, you aren’t going to be packing Messis and Rondaldos every other day, and it’s going to take some time for you to earn a stack of coins. But, do not fear, you can still get your starting XI off the ground with the help of some amazing, cheap players!

Our go-to cheap beasts for FIFA 22 are:

Kimpembe –  an absolute rock at the back for 6,000 coins. He’s strong, fast and good on the ball. Being French means he is super easy to link to other players for good team chemistry – we’d suggest partnering him with Kounde (2.9k). For a complete back four, add in Atal (4k) and Hernandez (7.4k) for a top level back four that costs you less than 20K.

Llorente – this card is harder to link, but you should definitely find a way to get him into the team. At just 12k, he’s the best box to box gold card in the game – he can defend and attack and he has amazing pace to boot. Kounde gives a soft link, but you can buy players that are Spanish/ play for Atletico to get better chem: Griezmann, Carrasco or even Ousman Dembele are great starter cards that link to this midfielder.

Renato Sanches – Here’s another nippy card that has both Ligue 1 and Portugal links. For a measly 1.2k, Sanches is a machine in midfield who can help you climb the ranks with ease. He’s definitely one of the best value starter players for a hybrid team.

Werner – The Chelsea man is super fast and a good finisher. He does have less linking potential, but he’s still great for Prem teams and can link with Bundesliga players like Sane (3.3k) and Goretzka (18k – our pick for the second best gold midfielder in the game).

Using some of these players will help form the solid spine of a team that will earn you the W as you climb the Rivals divisions.

Climb the Rivals ladder

Division Rivals can sometimes feel like an unending grind, but it’s one of the best ways to earn consistent rewards in-game! When you begin to climb through the divisions, you’ll start to receive better and better weekly rewards as long as you reach the win thresholds of 3 or 7 games.

You’ll also earn milestone rewards at the end of the season just for playing games: you reach a new tier at 20 games, then 50 games and then 90 games for the best rewards. If you’re good enough to make it all the way to the top, then you’ll also get a red pick of any of the TOTWs along with your standard reward. That means you’ll be able to add real quality to your team in no time – oh, and don’t forget the bragging rights too!

Qualify for FUT Champions

FUT Champs is the holy grail of FIFA competition, and it’s where you’ll be able to test your skill against the best of the best. Not only that, but it also has some of the best rewards possible and it’s the most exciting way to catapult your team to the highest level.

To make it there, you’ll have to earn enough points in the FUT Champs play-offs. But that’s easier said than done; you’ll need 1250 Rivals points to qualify for the play-offs. Then you’ll have to win 4 out of 10 qualifying games to gain entry into the finals! If you’re just arriving now, you’re in luck: they just revamped FUT Champs rewards, making it easier to qualify and giving you better untradeable packs for your efforts in the finals.

Complete Icon swaps

Once you’re in and around the FUT champs space, you’ll probably notice that you’re coming up against more and more teams that seem out of your league. This is an indicator that it’s time to put some work into acquiring some legendary talent for your own squad.

Icon Swaps objectives allow you to grind for tokens that you can use to earn valuable packs (like the 25×83+ pack) or Icon players (like Casillas, Del Piero or Rooney). You need to build squads from Europe’s top leagues and then complete objectives in Friendlies to earn the tokens. Check out our article on how to make the most of icon swaps:

These steps don’t have to be followed in this exact order, feel free to mix and match when you’re ready to push on to the next level in FUT 22. And that’s our complete guide on how to play FIFA 22 Ultimate Team if you’re beginning the journey this Christmas – we’ll see you at the top!
