Spree Casino Back in Georgia and Alabama

Spree Casino has reopened in Georgia and Alabama after blocking both states, a move linked to revenue pressures from California’s upcoming sweeps ban.

Spree Casino has reopened its doors to players from Georgia and Alabama.

The sweepstakes casino operator had initially restricted these states due to lawsuits against other operators and heightened perceived risks.

In Alabama, Stake.us faced litigation alleging illegal gambling, while in Georgia, VGW was sued over gambling violations before the case was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction.

Now, with lawsuits dismissed on procedural grounds and no signs of legislative bans in either state, Spree has re-entered, reducing its overall exclusion list from 15 to 13 states.

Spree’s Return Tied to Industry Shifts and California Ban?

The timing coincides with California’s passage of Assembly Bill 831, which prohibits sweepstakes casinos and threatens nearly one-fifth of the industry’s U.S. revenue.

For operators, reentering previously restricted states may be a way to offset these losses. Alabama and Georgia, particularly the latter as the eighth-most populous state, represent potentially lucrative markets.

This move follows similar decisions by other sweeps operators, such as McLuck and Hello Millions, who also reopened in both states in August. With increasing lawsuits in Louisiana and vendor withdrawals in California, September has been turbulent for sweeps casinos nationwide.
