This isn’t the first sweepstakes casino to shut down in the U.S. this year, but it is the first to openly point to the growing wave of legal and regulatory pressure in 2025 as the reason. The decision highlights how smaller operators in the sweeps space could be hit hardest as more states tighten their regulations on the industry.

The casino is owned by SWS Operations, Inc., a California-based company that has recently become a focus amid the growing regulatory uncertainty for sweepstakes-style casinos.

This development comes as no surprise, given that California is in the process of banning all sweepstakes casinos. The decision now rests with Governor Gavin Newsom. If he signs the bill, sweepstakes casinos will be entirely banned in California.
