VGW Reveals Custom Spending Limits for High-Volume Players

Chumba Operator Details Player Protection Policies at Online Social Games Expo

VGW announced it has enforced customized spending caps for its highest-spending users as part of its ongoing efforts to promote responsible sweepstakes gaming.

The announcement was made during the Online Social Games Expo, hosted by the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA). The event was organized in response to sweepstakes platforms being excluded from next week’s Global Gaming Expo.

High-Spenders Face Individual Reviews

According to Derek Brinkman, Executive Product Advisor at VGW, players who spend over $2,000 lifetime across any of VGW’s sites are flagged for a manual review. These players must provide financial documents (such as a tax return or bank statement), which VGW uses to set a personalized spending limit.

“The vast majority of players don’t ever get there,” Brinkman said, noting the average weekly spend is just $25 per player—far below what’s typical in real-money gambling environments.

VGW is the operator behind Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots, and Global Poker.

Casual Use, Not Casino Behavior

Panelists emphasized that most sweepstakes players use these platforms in short, casual sessions—waiting in line, watching TV, or during spare minutes throughout the day. Brinkman and Paul Foster (Yellow Social Interactive) stressed that the sweeps audience differs significantly from real-money casino patrons.

“These are entertainment platforms,” said Foster. “Most people are on for 15 to 20 minutes using free coins. This isn’t six-hour casino play.”

Addressing Youth Access Concerns

Foster pushed back on criticism that sweepstakes casino sites attract minors, calling the claims “completely wrong.” He cited robust age verification systems used by SGLA members—including ID upload, selfie checks, and strict 21+ access—as evidence of compliance with responsible gaming practices.

“This isn’t a tick box,” he said. “You don’t just say ‘I’m 21.’ You prove it—with documents, with a photo, and with system checks.”

Industry Positioning Amid Regulatory Scrutiny

SGLA members—such as VGW, ARB Interactive, and B-Two Operations—have positioned themselves as above industry standards on safety and compliance, even as critics push for sweeping bans like California’s pending AB831.

“We want adults,” Foster said. “We want entertainment. And we want a safe, verified experience.”
