Betty Sweeps Goes Dark for Good: Bans and Cease-and-Desists Seal the Deal
It’s final: Betty Sweeps is permanently discontinuing operations effective January 23rd, 2026

Betty Sweeps, a popular sweepstakes casino operator, is shutting down operations for good—pausing purchases, and eventually closing its platform effective January 23rd, 2026.
In an email sent to its players last January 9th, the company shared the news that it was “permanently discontinuing operations effective January 23, 2026”. It added that all accounts remain accessible until January 22nd, after which the site will shut down, and all balances are deemed lost if not redeemed.
Betty Sweeps is the first top sweepstakes casino to bite the dust this year, reflecting growing regulatory pressure on the broader industry.
Betty Sweeps Announces Schedule Ahead of Planned Closure

The sweepstakes gaming industry is off to a rocky start this year, with a popular US operator announcing a complete shutdown. Betty Sweeps shared the news on Friday (January 9th), saying that its platform is closing in two weeks.
A part of the email reads: “We regret to inform you that Betty Sweeps will be permanently discontinuing operations effective January 23, 2026”. The email continued with an announcement on site-wide changes, including purchases, redemptions, and unredeemed balances:
- January 9 to 22. Players can still use and plathrough their existing balance, and initiate redemptions.
- January 23. Betty Sweeps will close and become inaccessible.
- January 30. Last day to reach out to Betty Sweeps, through its email. ([email protected])
In the same email, Betty Sweeps told its users that any unredeemed balances “will be forfeited in accordance with point 2.4 of our Terms of Use”. The team closed its message by thanking its players for the trust.
Why is Betty Sweeps Ending Its Operations?

Betty Sweeps’ decision to close shop comes amid a broader regulatory crackdown on sweepstakes casinos. State authorities across the country have been issuing bans and cease-and-desist orders, and a few states (like New York and California) has called for a ban on these platforms.
The regulatory pressure isn’t ending soon; a few states have drafted their bills, calling for regulation or ban of the dual-currency models.
With states like Minnesota, Utah, Arizona, like Tennessee issuing enforcement action, it wouldn’t be surprising if other smaller operators will follow suit.
