Bitsler.io & Starlight Casino Shut Down Ahead of California Ban
Shutdowns mark a growing list of sweeps platforms folding under 2025 pressure.

Bitsler.io and Starlight Casino are closing shop ahead of California’s 2026 prohibition on dual-currency sweepstakes casinos.
Per operator notices sent to customers and reviewed by Stakester, Starlight Casino enters a 15-day wind-down through Nov 16, 2025, while Bitsler.io will cease operations on Dec 1, 2025 following a staggered cutoff of purchases and redemptions.
What’s changing at each site
If you’ve got Sweeps Coins or pending prizes, check the milestones below and act early; purchase and play windows close before the final shutdown date.
Starlight Casino (Nov 1 notice)
- New sign-ups disabled immediately.
- No more Gold Coin purchases or new Sweeps Coins.
- Gameplay allowed for 15 days from notice; full shutdown Nov 16, 2025. (Operator email reviewed by Stakester.)
Bitsler.io (U.S. sweeps brand)
- Purchases/mail-ins end Nov 10, 2025.
- Gameplay ends Nov 24–25, 2025.
- Redemptions close Dec 1, 2025. Live chat through Dec 1; email support through Dec 31. (Operator email reviewed by Stakester.)
Why this is happening
California’s AB 831 bans online sweepstakes casinos that mimic real-money gambling starting January 1, 2026; lawmakers passed it in September and Gov. Gavin Newsom signed it in October.
The law targets dual-currency models. Many operators are now exiting or shrinking their California footprint ahead of the effective date.
Analysts have flagged California as a large slice of the U.S. sweeps market, and several firms have trimmed forward revenue expectations after AB 831’s passage, another pressure point for smaller brands deciding to shut down entirely.
The broader pattern we’re seeing
Across 2025, operators have generally fallen into four buckets:
- Early exits from California to reduce compliance risk before year-end.
- Re-launches in previously closed states to offset lost California traffic (varies by operator). (Industry trend; company announcements vary.)
- Staying until Dec 31, 2025 in CA, then pivoting to Gold-Coin-only in 2026.
- Full shutdowns (e.g., Vivaro.us on Oct 1, 2025, and now Starlight Casino, Bitsler.io) when the economics don’t pencil out post-ban.
If you played at Starlight Casino or Bitsler.io
- Check your email for the site’s official timelines and any required steps.
- Redeem Sweeps Coins before the deadlines. Bitsler.io redemptions end Dec 1; Starlight shuts completely Nov 16.
- Download receipts/statements you may need for records or tax prep.
- Expect support windows to narrow: Bitsler live chat until Dec 1; email support through Dec 31.
California’s ban won’t end sweeps gaming nationwide, but it raises the bar to survive, especially if you don’t have deep pockets, a large multi-state audience, or a plan to go Gold-Coin-only after Jan 1.
For players, the message is simple: cash out early, keep records, and watch for successor brands that may reopen in compliant states or under fun-play-only models.
